Kyburz is surrounded by fantastic hiking opportunities. Here are some trails to explore, with a brief description to help you find the right one for your next adventure.
Bassi Falls
A popular, moderate out-and-back trail leading to a majestic 109-foot waterfall. It's best to visit in late spring or early summer when snowmelt is at its peak.
Wrights Lake Campground to Lower Twin Lake
A moderate, out-and-back trail that takes you through lush forests and over granite slabs to the scenic Lower Twin Lake. The trail is well-marked with a free self-registration at the trailhead for Desolation Wilderness.
Wrights Lake to Enchanted Pools
This is a moderate hike to a series of beautiful pools. The trail is about 3.4 miles long and offers a scenic out-and-back route from Wrights Lake.
Bassi Falls via Towering Rocks Trail
This route offers an easy, 1.2-mile round trip hike to Bassi Falls. It is a good option for a quick, family-friendly outing.
Lyons Lake and Lake Sylvia via Lyons Creek Trail
A longer, more strenuous 11-mile route that takes you past multiple lakes and offers a rewarding journey into Desolation Wilderness. The trail can be rocky and challenging in some areas.
Wrights Lake to Grouse Lake
This is a strenuous trail with a significant elevation gain, leading to the secluded Grouse Lake. The trail goes through forests and over granite slabs, with beautiful views along the way.
Lake Schmidell via Blakely Trail
A long and challenging trail that passes multiple lakes and offers stunning views, especially after a steep climb over Rockbound Pass. The trail is about 9 miles and is located in the Desolation Wilderness.
Maude Lake via Rockbound Trail
An easier trail at 4.4 miles to Maude Lake. It is a one-way trail that provides an alternative to other more difficult routes in the area.
